Telegram channel for business 2026: growth, monetization and automation
How to launch and develop a Telegram channel for business: growth strategy, content formats, monetization through advertising and funnel. ERR, coverage, crops - with real numbers.

They tell me “Telegram is for bloggers,” and I look at the numbers: ERR 25-35% versus 6-10% on VKontakte, the cost of a subscriber in a niche starts from 50 ₽, and there is a direct road from the channel to sales without an algorithmic feed in the middle. Below is the full cycle: how to launch, grow and monetize a business channel in 2026.
I have been working with Telegram channels since 2021 - both for client projects and for my own. Current projects have a total of about 180K subscribers in different niches: gaming, B2B marketing, IT. The numbers in the article are the median for these projects and data from colleagues with whom I check every quarter.
The main misunderstanding about the Telegram channel for business is that they think it’s about reach. It’s more correct to think that this is about ERR. A channel with 3K subscribers and an ERR of 35% sells better than a channel with 30K and an ERR of 4%.
1. Why Telegram and not VKontakte or Zen
VKontakte has been cutting organics with an algorithmic feed since 2018. If you have 10K subscribers in a public post, the post will be seen by 400-800 people without paid promotion - this is an ERR of 4-8%. Telegram works differently: the subscriber does not have a “smart feed” that decides whether to show your post. There is a list of channels - and your post will appear there. Hence ERR 20-40% is the norm.
Zen is a different story. It's good with SEO traffic through Yandex search, but bad with audience return. The reader read the article, left, and cannot be reached via push or subscription as easily as in Telegram. For a business with regular products or services, this is critical.
Telegram wins in three ways: coverage of its own audience (not algorithmic), direct communication through a bot, and the ability to build a funnel right inside the messenger - without redirects and landing pages.
| Parameter | Telegram | VKontakte | Zen |
|---|---|---|---|
| ERR (norm for a niche) | 20–40% | 5–15% | 3–8% |
| Algorithmic feed | No | Yes (cuts coverage) | Yes (SEO dependent) |
| Direct sales from the post | High | Average | Low |
| Automation via bot | Yes, native | Limited | No |
| Subscriber cost (business niche) | 80–200 ₽ | 60–180 ₽ | — |
2. Format and niche: what works in 2026
Three formats that really work in business channels right now. They don’t “can work” - they consistently provide an ERR above 20% even with growth.
Expert blog on behalf of the founder or specialist. A living person writes, there is a position, there are mistakes, there are numbers. This is the most converting format for B2B - because the reader is buying from a specific person, and not from a “company”. ERR on channels of this format is 25-40% with an audience of up to 20K.
Niche news aggregator. Collects industry news with commentary. It grows quickly through seeding (people subscribe to “useful” content), but is monetized worse - they read it, but don’t buy it. Works well as a lead magnet for the main channel.
A funnel channel for a specific product. The content is tailored to one problem and one solution. The reader subscribes, warms up, buys. ERR may be modest (12-18%), but the conversion from subscriber to buyer is 3-8%, which is 2-3 times higher than standard email marketing.
What doesn’t work in 2026: channels “about everything”, content without a point of view, publications less than once a week. Threads and stories Telegram provides tools for growth, but without a basic ERR they will not save you.
3. First 1000 subscribers: strategy without budget
Before the first paid channel placements, you need basic content and at least some kind of live audience. Otherwise, seeding converts poorly: a person enters an empty or “dead” channel and leaves. This is money in the trash.
What I do before the launch: 15-20 posts of different formats (case, opinion, list, question to the audience), a pin with a description of the channel and who the author is, a greeting bot for new subscribers. This takes 3-4 days.
Free sources of first subscribers that really work:
- Thematic chats - find 15-20 chats in a niche, write useful comments, link to the channel in the signature. Do not spam with a link in every message - this will result in a ban. Goal: become a visible participant.
- Own database - email list, clients in CRM, Instagram, personal VKontakte profile. If there are at least 500 contacts, 5-10% are converted into subscribers.
- Mutual PR with channels of similar size - find 5-7 channels in related niches with 200-2000 subscribers, offer mutual mentions. The first 100-300 subscribers from each exchange.
- Virality through reposts - one strong post-analysis or post-provocation can bring 100-500 subscribers organically if it gets into thematic chats.
Real figure: 200-400 subscribers before the first paid seeding - this is the norm without a budget in 2-4 weeks with active work.
4. Crops in canals: how to choose and not waste money
Sowing is the main growth channel for Telegram channels in the business and marketing niche. The cost of one placement in a channel of 5-30K subscribers is 2-15K rubles. CPF (cost per follower) with successful sponsored placements - 60-150 rubles. If unsuccessful - 400-800 ₽ and zero new subscribers.
My checklist for choosing a channel for sponsored placements through TGStat:
- Channel ERR - minimum 12%, preferably 18%+. Below 10% is most likely a scam or a dead audience.
- The growth over the last 30 days is positive. If a channel is losing subscribers, your placement there is money for a declining audience.
- The coverage of the last 5 posts should be 15-25% of the number of subscribers. If less than 10%, something is wrong.
- Comments and reactions are lively, different, not the same emoji in all posts.
- Thematic intersection - the channel’s audience should be your target, and not “entrepreneurs in general.”
Purchased subscribers are not an audience. This is the number in statistics that kills ERR and makes your channel unattractive to real advertisers. A channel with 3K live subscribers and an ERR of 30% is monetized better than a channel with 30K subscribers and an ERR of 3%. Always.
Post formats for seeding: the best result is not direct advertising, but a “native story”. The owner of the channel writes in his own words why he subscribed and what he found useful. Such a post gives a CPF 30-50% lower than a banner advertising post. The budget for the first round of seeding is 30-60K rubles for 5-10 channels. Less - the statistics are unrepresentative.
| Channel niche | Sowing cost (5-30K sub.) | Average CPF | ERR benchmark |
|---|---|---|---|
| Business and Entrepreneurship | 3 000–15 000 ₽ | 80–200 ₽ | 18–30% |
| Marketing and SMM | 2 000–10 000 ₽ | 60–150 ₽ | 20–35% |
| Personal Finance and Investments | 3 000–12 000 ₽ | 50–120 ₽ | 15–28% |
| IT and development | 4 000–18 000 ₽ | 100–250 ₽ | 22–40% |
| Medicine and health | 5 000–20 000 ₽ | 150–350 ₽ | 15–25% |
| Lifestyle and entertainment | 1 000–6 000 ₽ | 30–80 ₽ | 10–20% |
5. ERR and coverage: what to consider, what to ignore
ERR is the only channel growth metric worth tracking every week. Everything else (subscribers, views, reposts) is secondary.
Formula: ERR = (post views / number of subscribers) × 100%. Telegram counts views for 24 hours after publication - this is your working figure. Don't look at "total views" after a week: the majority of the audience reacts in the first 2-4 hours.
What makes ERR low:
- Inflated subscribers - bots do not read posts, ERR drops mechanically.
- Posting less than once a week - the audience “forgets” the channel, it falls out of the habit.
- Monotonous format - if all posts are the same type and length, the reader stops opening.
- Publishing during “dead” hours - the best windows for B2B are weekdays 8-10 am and 7-9 pm.
What to ignore: The absolute number of views per post. A channel with 500 subscribers and an ERR of 40% has 200 views. A channel with 10K and an ERR of 4% also has 400 views. But the first channel converts better - its audience is loyal and involved. Secured — a separate story: a pinned post accumulates views for months, do not count it in ERR.
6. Monetization: advertising, funnel, product
Three ways to monetize a Telegram channel for business - and they are not mutually exclusive.
Direct advertising. Placements in your channel from other brands. Works with an audience of 1-2K live subscribers in niche topics. The rate depends on the niche and ERR: 5K channel, business niche, ERR 25% - 5-12K ₽ per post. Channel 20K with the same parameters - 20-50K ₽. With 3-4 placements per month, this is real money without much effort.
How to find advertisers: media kit with current figures (ERR, coverage of the last 10 posts, target audience description) → post in the channel profile → register the channel in TGStat and Telemetr → write directly to brands from related niches. The first 3-5 advertisers usually come through direct outreach, rather than through incoming applications.
Funnel into a product or service. The channel is heating. The subscriber reads for 2-4 weeks, sees the expertise, buys a consultation, course or product. Conversion from subscriber to buyer with good content is 2-5% per quarter. On the 3K channel, this is 60-150 sales per quarter without advertising costs.
Telegram Stars and paid content. Since 2024, Telegram has supported paid posts and private channels through Stars. For B2B experts, this is a closed club with paid access: 500-2000 ₽/month, 100-300 participants - a total of 50-600K ₽/month passively. Works in niches with high value of information: finance, legal content, B2B insights.
7. Bots and automation: what to automate first
You don't need a complicated bot at the start. We need a minimum set that saves time and prevents conversion rates from falling due to a slow response.
Welcome bot. When you subscribe, you receive an automatic message: who is the author, what will happen here, a link to the 3 best posts. Can be done via BotFather + any constructor (Salebot, Botmother, ManyBot) in an hour. This increases retention of the first 7 days by 15-25% - tested on two projects.
Bot for advertising requests. Instead of “write in a personal message” - a form through a bot: channel name, link, budget, contact. The data is sent to a table or CRM. Saves 1-2 hours of correspondence per week with 5+ incoming requests.
Delayed posting. Telegram's built-in scheduler works fine for simple texts. For media and complex formats - Teletype or third-party services. Plan posts for a week in advance in a block, rather than write every day in the moment - this saves 3-5 hours a week and makes the content more stable.
What to automate in the second place (when the channel has grown to 5K+): parsing mentions through the TGStat API, automatic distribution to the database when a new post is released in a closed channel, automatic collection of ERR statistics and coverage in the dashboard. This already requires development or expensive services - most channels do not reach this level before more than a year.
8. What to do about it right now
Telegram is the most underrated B2B platform in Russia, not because people don’t know about it. But because it is perceived as “another channel”, and not as a replacement for email marketing with an open rate 4 times higher.
If you already have an audience somewhere else, start a channel, move your base there, look at the ERR in a month. If the ERR is above 20%, it means the format is working, start sponsored placements. If below 10%, deal with the content first, because seeding with a bad ERR will only expose the problem.
