Stories - vertical content for 15–60 seconds, disappearing after 24 hours; format with the highest visibility in feeds.

Stories (from Instagram Stories, launched in 2016) - vertical content lasting 15-60 seconds that automatically disappears after 24 hours. The format was copied by all major platforms: VK Stories, Telegram Stories, WhatsApp Status.

The feed formatting mechanics are designed so that stories are always above the main feed: on VK and Instagram, icons with circles hang at the very top. This gives reach among the active audience higher than that of posts in the feed, but only with regular posting - the VK algorithm raises the icon up if the page publishes stories every day or every other day.

Telegram Stories appeared in 2023. Difference from Instagram: Telegram Stories are visible to channel subscribers only if it has more than 1000 people and rings are turned on. For personal pages in Telegram, this is an effective outreach tool; for channels it works less well.

Key metrics for stories are viewability (benchmark: 50–70% for small accounts) and “forward” vs “back” taps. If the audience constantly taps forward in the first 3 seconds, the content is not hooked. Clicking on a link or profile is already a conversion. In commercial VK stories, the target click-through rate is 2–5%.
