Case as a product: how to package the result so that it sells

How to put together a case that brings clients, and not just praises you: structure from problem to figure, what to do with an NDA, what metrics to show. Using my cases COLIZEUM, EZ KATKA and NEMIFIST as an example, I analyze the packaging of the result.

Article cover:Case as a product: how to package the result so that it sells

A case sells not when it is beautiful, but when the reader sees his task in someone else’s story and thinks “I need the same.” Most cases in marketers' portfolios don't do this. They tell you what a person can do, not what he did for the business and how much it cost in money. Below I analyze the packaging of the result using the example of three of my cases - COLIZEUM, EZ KATKA and NEMIFIST - and show how a strong formulation differs from a weak one.

Over the course of 9 years in digital, I have probably written a hundred cases. There were about fifteen versions of the portfolio. And here’s what I realized from my own mistakes: my first cases were about me. “Managed SMM, launched a target, did collaborations.” Sounds like a resume, reads like noise. After this, no one was in a hurry to call for a conversation. It turned the corner when I rewrote three cases from a client’s problem to a digital one and removed myself almost completely from them. Conversion rates have increased in response. Not “significantly” - they just started answering.

A case is not a showcase of your skills. A case is proof that other people's money has grown under your management. They don’t buy the past result, but the confidence that you will repeat it on their project.

1. Structure: from the client’s problem to the figure

The working frame of the case is five blocks, and order here is more important than beauty. Context and pain. Hypothesis. What did they do? Number before and after. Which is repeatable. If you throw away the first block, the number hangs in the air. If you throw out the last one, the case remains in the past and promises nothing.

I'll take COLIZEUM. A weak package would sound like this: “He was the Head of SMM, he led the social networks of a network of cyber clubs.” Strong starts with pain: the network did not have systemic coverage and reputational footprint, the brand was known locally. Hypothesis - large federal coverage through collaborations and working with reviews will gain recognition. What we did - collabs with Coca-Cola and Yandex, systematic work with cards. The figure is 82 million coverage, ER 2.6%, 1100 reviews on Yandex.Maps. Repeatable - the mechanics of collaborations and the reputation layer are transferred to any retail with offline points.

The difference is not in the facts, the facts are the same. The difference is that in the second option, the reader sees logic, not a track record. I wrote more about how a whole page is assembled from such cases in the article about marketing portfolio 2026.

2. Why “list of works” doesn’t sell

“I set up advertising, managed social networks, created content, communicated with bloggers.” Familiar. This is the most common case format and the most useless. The problem isn't that it's not true. The problem is that the list of work answers the question “what did you do”, but the client has another question in his head: “what will I get from this.”

A to-do list is about a process. The case is about the result. The client does not buy 30 creatives and does not buy “social media management.” He buys increased turnover, cheap leads, recognition. When I see a block of “responsibilities” in someone else’s portfolio, it’s immediately a minus, because the responsibilities were at work, and the result goes into the case.

Here is the main anti-pattern: the case is about yourself, not about the client. “I have grown as a specialist, I have mastered new tools” is a diary, not a case. In the case, the main character is the client’s business, and you are the reason why his number has increased.

3. What to show for NDA

The most common excuse: “I have everything under NDA, I can’t show you the numbers.” Half the cases are simply too lazy to figure out what exactly is not allowed. An NDA usually covers absolute amounts and brand name, but almost never covers dynamics.

If data cannot be published, agree with the client on the acceptable level of detail: for example, relative change in CAC without the amount of turnover. If you have permission, separate the scale of the company and the result of your work. EZ KATKA’s turnover of the entire network for 2024 amounted to 124 million rubles, the network reached 19 arenas and a base of 120 thousand clients; the summary specifically states a 15% reduction in CAC. The turnover dynamics for the year has not been confirmed in the available materials.

One rule: agree on even impersonal wording with the client in writing. “CAC −15% in the cyberclub niche” is harmless, but let there be one paragraph in the correspondence where the client saw this and did not object. This insures both you and him.

4. What metrics to take

The metric in the case is the client’s business metric, not the volume of your work. “I made 30 creatives”, “wrote 200 posts”, “held 50 meetings” - this is not a result. This is a description of how you spent your time. The client doesn't care how many creatives you made as long as they don't move the number they pay for.

Take NEMIFIST - these are custom PCs and gaming hardware, not psychology. Weak formulation: “managed a Telegram channel, attracted bloggers.” Strong - with funnel metrics: grew TG to 50 thousand subscribers, brought in 1022 leads at 12.56 ₽, coverage of 30 million+ through gaming bloggers like Booster, Dima Gordey and Instasamka. The cost of a lead is 12.56 ₽ - this is the metric. It’s about the client’s money, it can be compared with the market, and it’s how they decide to hire you.

The hierarchy is simple. The best metric is money: turnover, profit, CAC, ROAS. The next one is cost and number of leads. Next is coverage and involvement, but only if they are true KPIs for this business. Likes and subscribers without connection to money are vanity, not results. I discussed how to calculate these numbers honestly in an article about social proof and reviews.

5. Visual, length and format

The graphs and screenshots in the case are needed for one thing - to prove the figure. Subscriber growth graph from analytics, a screenshot of the advertising account with the cost of a lead, a dashboard with turnover, a real client review. All this turns your word into proof. But stock images of “team looking at a laptop” work against you: they take up space that should work for trust.

About the length. The case should not be a longread. Half a page for one case is the ceiling. If it takes the reader five minutes to understand what you've done, the case doesn't work. The structure of five blocks just keeps it within the limits: each block is two or three sentences, no more.

And about quantity. Three to five deep cases are stronger than twenty superficial ones. I keep five main ones and select two or three relevant ones for a specific client. I show the e-sports business COLIZEUM and EZ KATKA, e-com with hardware - NEMIFIST. Relevance beats volume: one case from a neighboring niche is more convincing than ten from strangers.

6. Anti-patterns that kill a case

Boasting without numbers is the first. “Achieved impressive results,” “increased sales multiple times,” “took the brand to a new level.” Not a single figure, not a single fact. Such a case reads like an advertisement for itself and does not inspire confidence. Replace any such phrase with a number - or delete it.

The second is a case about yourself. Third, attributing someone else’s results to oneself. If turnover has increased because the company raised prices and opened five locations, and you only managed Instagram, do not blame all the growth on yourself. At the interview, this is revealed with one question: “which of these is yours?” Honest attribution “I was responsible for attracting, leads fell in price by one and a half times” is stronger than the misappropriated million of someone else.

The fourth is fictitious accuracy. “ROAS increased by 247%” sounds convincing right up until the moment when you are asked to show how you calculated it. If you are not sure about the number, take the range. An honest range doesn't fall apart on detailed questions. By the way, the price of this honesty pays off at the stage of bidding on the rate - I wrote about this in the material about marketing consultant rates.

7. Weak versus strong wording

The same facts can be presented in such a way that they sell, and in such a way that they make noise. The difference is a number and a business metric instead of a process description.

WeakStrongly
Managed the social media network of cyber clubsCoverage 82 million, ER 2.6%, collaborations with Coca-Cola and Yandex
Engaged in marketing a network of clubs19 clubs, 120 thousand clients, CAC decreased by 15%
Attracted bloggers and ran TelegramTG up to 50 thousand subscribers, 1022 leads at 12.56 ₽
Set up advertising, increased sales+25% leads, CPC −20%, conversion +30% per quarter
Achieved impressive results(delete - this is not a wording, but an emptiness)

8. Case structure by blocks

A ready-made template that I use to assemble any case. Five lines - five blocks. An example of a column is on COLIZEUM.

BlockWhat to writeExample (COLIZEUM)
Context and painNiche, what didn’t work, what metric hurtNetwork of cyber clubs, local recognition, no reputational trace
HypothesisWhat was suggested and why - one sentenceFederal collaborations and work with maps will increase coverage and trust
What did you doAction → why, without bloating the listCollabs with Coca-Cola and Yandex, systematic work with reviews
Number before and afterBusiness metric, on one scale, over a period of timeCoverage 82 million, ER 2.6%, 1100 reviews on Yandex.Maps
What is repeatableWhat will you reproduce on a new project?Mechanics of collaborations and reputation layer for offline retail

The same framework also works outside of the portfolio - at an interview, in a response, in a cold letter. I discussed how to integrate such cases into a job search in an article about job search for AI-native marketer. The case is the core, everything else is a wrapper around it. A strong personal brand is also built on cases, and not on posts about nothing - more about this in the material about marketer's personal brand.

Conclusion

A case sells when it’s about the client’s money, and not about your skills. Structure from problem to number, business metrics instead of a list of works, dynamics in percentages with NDA, three to five deep stories instead of twenty empty ones. A number before and after, and one line about what is repeatable. All. If there is no number in the case, it is not a case, but an advertisement of oneself. And no one believes themselves in advertising.
