Evergreen funnel versus launch: what to choose and how not to break trust
The launch gives a peak in revenue and lasts for a week, evergreen works constantly and gives predictability. I’ll analyze how they differ in economics, when to transfer a launch to evergreen, and why a fake deadline kills conversion more than its absence.

The “startups versus evergreen” debate is usually conducted as if it were a matter of taste. In fact, this is a question of what you are selling and what exactly your deadline is selling - and the answer determines whether the funnel will survive the transfer to automatic mode.
The launch sells in waves and deadlines. Evergreen sells with content and getting to the point. If you remove the wave and do not strengthen the content, sales will simply disappear.
1. What is the difference essentially?
| Launch | Evergreen | |
|---|---|---|
| Starting point | General date | Human Entry Day |
| Revenue | Peak and silence | Smooth flow |
| Conversion | Higher on the peak | Lower but constant |
| Planability | Low | High |
| Team workload | Explosive | Rovnaya |
| What does it sell? | Deadline and wave | Content and moment |
The line about the load is underestimated. Launching once a quarter means three weeks of emergency and a month of recovery. For a two-person team, this is often the deciding factor, not the conversion.
2. Deadline: the main trap of translation
When transferring a launch to evergreen, the first thing they try to do is maintain urgency - and set a personal timer. Then one of two things happens.
The person reloads the page and the timer resets to zero. Or he returns after a week, and the “last day” comes again. In both cases, the conclusion is the same: they are lying here. And this conclusion carries over to the entire product.
A working replacement - the limitations that actually exist:
- the number of seats in the nearest group, if groups are actually formed;
- validity period of the personal price, if it is recorded in the system;
- the composition of bonuses, which varies from month to month;
- date of the next live call, if it is in the program.
All four can be time-limited fairly, because the limitation is real. The difference in conversion is usually smaller than it seems, but the difference in trust is fundamental.
3. Content is rewritten, not migrated.
At the launch, the audience is warmed up together. You can refer to yesterday’s broadcast, to the general chat, to the fact that “you have already seen the analysis.” A person comes to evergreen alone, on a random day, and has not seen any of this.
Practical consequence: each letter and each step must work independently. References to general context are removed; repetition of key things is not a disadvantage, but a necessity.
It’s convenient to lay it out in the same way as a content plan: the frame specifies what the step is about, the topic is inserted inside. Finished mesh - in content plan template.
4. Count in cohorts, not months.
Everything is simple when launching: there is one audience, one window, conversion is considered a division. People log in to evergreen every day, and dividing the month's sales by the month's logins correlates different people.
That's right - by entry cohort: how many people entered this week and what happened to them after seven, fourteen, thirty days. The mechanics are the same as in cohort analysis, and it immediately shows the real length of the decision-making cycle.
5. For whom is evergreen not suitable?
Products in which group dynamics are part of the value. Streaming course with live feedback, mastermind, intensive: there people start together not because it’s more convenient to sell, but because otherwise the product is worse.
In such cases, the deadline is not a marketing technique, but a property of the product, and it does not need to be imitated or replaced. Here it is more honest to leave the launches and work to ensure that there is even content between them, rather than silence.
6. Hybrid, which is what you usually get
In practice, they rarely choose just one thing. Working design: evergreen as a base, giving a predictable flow, and two to three launches per year during peak season.
Then the launch ceases to be the only source of revenue and does not turn into an emergency on which the quarter depends. And evergreen gets from launches what it lacks: a wave of attention and social proof.
The seasonality around which launches are staged is calculated from its data - how this is done is discussed in material about the calendar of events in the media plan.
7. Summary
Launch is a jerk, evergreen is a flow. It is possible to translate the first into the second, but you cannot postpone the deadline: artificial urgency in automatic mode is read instantly and is worth trusting.
The method of measurement is also changing: calendar months are no longer suitable; we need to consider them as entry cohorts. And almost always the correct answer is not “or”, but a hybrid.
