Performance Marketing

performance marketing · performance marketing · performance

Performance marketing is an advertising model where you pay only for measurable results (click, lead, sale), and not for reach.

Performance marketing (or simply performance) is an advertising model where the marketer pays for specific measurable actions of the audience: click, lead, registration, purchase. Unlike brand advertising, where you pay for impressions and reach without a direct link to sales.

The main feature of performance is that all metrics (CPL, CPA, ROAS, CAC) are calculated in real time, the campaign can be optimized on the fly: remove non-working creatives, redistribute the budget between channels, adjust targeting.

In the Russian context, 2026 performance is basically a combination of VK Ads + Ya.Direct + Telegram Ads. Google Ads technically works over a VPN, but for most projects it is not a core strategy. A detailed analysis of the Russian performance market 2026 is in separate article.

Performance does not equal “put the entire budget into performance advertising”. A healthy strategy is 70% performance + 30% brand (content, influence, PR), because pure performance quickly hits the audience ceiling.

Frequently asked questions about Performance Marketing

What is performance marketing?+
Performance marketing is an advertising model where you pay for measurable results: clicks, leads, sales. All metrics are calculated in real time, the campaign can be optimized on the fly. In Russia 2026 is mainly VK Ads, Ya.Direct and Telegram Ads.
How is performance different from brand advertising?+
Performance - you pay for a specific action (click, lead, purchase), the result is visible immediately. Brand - you pay for reach and recognition, the result is delayed for months. A healthy strategy is 70% performance + 30% brand.
Is it possible to build marketing only on performance?+
It’s possible, but you’ll quickly hit the ceiling of the audience. Pure performance without brand activity gives growth for the first 3-6 months, then CPL begins to grow - the audience is finite, but new recognition is not built.
