GigaChat is a language model from Sberbank. Available via API with registration through a Sber account. The main practical difference from foreign competitors for Russian business: it works without VPN, accepts Russian cards, data is stored in Russian infrastructure - which is critical for companies with strict requirements under Federal Law 152 on personal data.
In projects I use the GigaChat API in cases where the client absolutely cannot send data to foreign servers - banks, medical services, government agencies. The quality of the model in Russian is sufficient for production tasks: summarization of documents, classification of requests, generation of template texts.
Honestly: in terms of generation quality, GigaChat is inferior to GPT-4o and Claude for most creative tasks. But this is not always critical. For a corporate chatbot in typical scenarios, the difference in the “smartness” of the model is often invisible to the user - while the issue of compliance with the regulator’s requirements is clearly resolved.
