Bounce Rate

bounce rate · bounce rate · failures

Bounce rate is the percentage of visits without action on the site. Yandex.Metrica and Google Analytics count differently - this is often confused.

Bounce rate is the percentage of visits in which a person left without doing anything. It sounds simple, but there is a catch behind the metric: Yandex.Metrica and Google Analytics calculate it differently.

Yandex.Metrica considers a visit shorter than 15 seconds with one page view to be a refusal. Google Analytics 4 has generally moved away from the classic bounce rate to “engaged sessions”. Therefore, it makes no sense to compare the failure rate between two systems head-on - these are different metrics with a similar name.

A high failure rate in itself is not a death sentence. On a landing page with one screen and a form, a person can read everything, leave a request and formally “refuse” according to the metric. I look at refusals not absolutely, but in conjunction with conversion: there is a problem when refusals are high and there are few targeted actions.

Frequently asked questions about Bounce Rate

What is bounce rate?+
Bounce rate is the proportion of visits in which a person left without action. An important nuance: Yandex.Metrica considers a visit shorter than 15 seconds to be a refusal, GA4 uses “involved sessions”. It is impossible to compare the two systems head-on - the metrics are different.
What is a normal bounce rate?+
For a landing page with one form - 40-60% (this is normal). For an online store - 25-40%. For a blog - 60-80%. The main thing is to look not at the absolute number, but at the link with the conversion: high failures + good conversion = no problem.
