AI content detectors 2026: 5 tools for checking texts - test in Russian and English
Test of 5 AI content detectors in Russian and English: Originality.ai (95% EN), GPTZero, Turnitin, Corpus-2, ZeroGPT. Table of accuracy, prices, false positive rate. How AI detectors work with Russian text and should marketers be afraid of them.
In 2025-2026, every third text on the Internet is written by AI - this is an estimate from Originality.ai report. AI detectors have become a business: companies pay $15/month for text checking, universities install Turnitin, SEO specialists they send articles through five services. I figure out what really works, and what is a dummy.
I checked my database: 47 blog articles, 30+ client texts, 20 prompt generation - through five AI detectors. The results are below. The main conclusion: not a single detector works as promised marketing.
The AI detector does not detect AI. It detects the probability that the text statistically similar to how AI typically writes. These are two different statements, and until you understand the difference, you will be paying for fortune telling.
1. Originality.ai: The Industry Standard for SEO
Originality.ai is the most accurate detector on the market. Claims 94-96% accuracy in English. In my tests - 95% in English texts and 82-85% for Russians. Price: $14.95/month for 2000 checks.
What is important: Originality.ai gives a false positive (false positive) on complex technical texts. If the text is written in dry language with in terms - the detector can consider it an AI generation. On mine client texts on dentistry Originality gave AI 30% for the text, written by a live copywriter.

2. GPTZero: Best for Education
GPTZero was created for universities - professors check student work. Its accuracy: 85-90% in English, 65-70% in Russian. Free for basic checks, Pro - $15/month.
Feature of GPTZero: it shows which parts of the text are similar on AI rather than overall score. This gives more context: perhaps A.I. Only the introductory part has been written, and the main text is live.
In my tests, GPTZero missed 4 out of 10 Claude texts in Russian. For English - missed 2 out of 10. If you are checking English content - GPTZero normal. For a Russian, don’t count on it.
3. Turnitin: academic standard with AI module
Turnitin is the university standard for checking plagiarism. In 2024 they added an AI detector. Accuracy: 70-80%, but only available via educational institutions.
Turnitin problem: it was trained on GPT-3.5 and GPT-4. Claude Sonnet 4, It detects Gemini 2.5 and newer models worse. If the student passes the work, written through Claude - Turnitin can show 10-20% AI, although Full text AI generation.
Second caveat: Turnitin does not distinguish between AI text and paraphrased text. The student could write it himself, but paraphrase a paragraph from Wikipedia - Turnitin can show AI. There is no benchmark in the market, and Turnitin is confirms.
4. Corpus-2: best for Russian language
Corpus-2 is a Russian development, trained on a corpus of Russian texts. Accuracy: ~78% in Russian. Free. This is the best option if you you need to check the Russian text.
Corpus-2 showed 76% accuracy in my tests versus 82% for Originality.ai in Russian. For free. A good option for a quick check. Minus: no integrations, only web interface.
What’s important: Corpus-2 is less likely to give false positives in Russian than Originality. If Originality out of the blue shows AI at technical text - Corpus-2 is shown by a person. For 15 test Corpus-2 texts were wrong 3 times, Originality - 5 times in Russian.
5. ZeroGPT: free but useless
ZeroGPT is the most popular free detector. And the most useless. False positive rate: 20-30%. That is, every third or fourth It labels human text as AI.
In my tests, ZeroGPT showed AI on 3 out of 5 human texts. This is not a detector, but an alarm generator. The only advantage is free and without registration.
If you are checking the text for yourself, ZeroGPT is not needed. He will show AI where there is none, and AI will miss where there is. It's better not to check in general, than to check ZeroGPT.

7. How to avoid getting caught by an AI detector
A method that really works: human + AI. I write the structure and abstracts, AI generates a draft, I rewrite key paragraphs by adding personal experience and branded details. Originality.ai shows this text 10-20% AI - pass.
A method that does not work: “rewrite the prompt”. If the AI wrote the text, and you asked “write more humanely” - the detector still sees it. AI statistical patterns are not removed simply by pointing them out.

8. Google and Yandex: do they detect AI content?
