Yandex Webmaster for marketers: five reports that change decisions
The webmaster usually gives it to the SEO and never opens it again. I’m looking at five reports that marketers need: impressions without clicks, pages in search, crawls, duplicates, and recommendations. With an example of how the query report reverses priorities.

A webmaster is usually opened once, given to the contractor and never opened again. Meanwhile, there is a report that changes the priorities of the content plan more than any data from Metrica - and marketers most often do not know about it.
The metric answers the question “who came.” Webmaster - to the question “who was shown us and who didn’t come.” The second question is usually more interesting.
1. A report worth opening Webmaster for
“Performance” section, “Search query statistics” tab "Popular queries". By default, the next tab with summary groups opens, and that’s where most of the acquaintance ends.
On the required tab there is a table: request, impressions, clicks, CTR. The key here is the lines where there are a lot of impressions and zero clicks. In Metrica, such lines do not exist in principle: it only sees completed visits.
The practical impact of this report is easier to demonstrate than to explain. Analysis of this site gave the following picture: five thousand impressions, two hundred thirty-seven clicks, and in the top twenty by impressions, eighteen queries had zero clicks. The conclusion “you need more traffic” then turned into “you need to get into what is already being shown.”
2. Zero clicks means two different things.
| Situation | How to check | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| The page is there, but they don’t click | Find a page by searching the site | Rewrite the title to match the query wording |
| No profile page | Nothing suitable is found | Create a separate page |
The first case is treated much cheaper than the second, and is more common than it seems. A typical example: the page is called “How to build a sales funnel in 2026”, and a person searches for “sales funnel 2026”. The wording is broken by a preposition; there is no exact match in the snippet.
The same thing with the Latin and Cyrillic alphabet: the title “Win-back” versus the request “winback”. Same word, different spelling, no coincidence.
3. Pages in search
Section "Indexing". There are two numbers here: how many pages are added and how many actually participate in the search. The gap between them is normal; dynamics are important.
A sharp drop in the number of pages in search almost always has a technical reason: a section has closed, the server response has broken, or duplicates have appeared. There is no point in reacting to it by writing new texts - first you need to understand what has gone and why.
The list of recent changes is also useful: it shows specific URLs that have been added and dropped in recent weeks.
4. Traversal history
What addresses the robot requested and what response codes it received. The report is technical, but it gives the marketer two things.
First: living 404 that no one remembers. A link from an old newsletter, an address from someone else’s material, a page that was renamed, forgetting about the redirect.
Second: whether the robot reaches new sections. If an article was published a week ago, but it is not crawled, the problem is not in the text.
5. Duplicates title and description
A separate report in the indexing section that directly names pages with the same or nearly identical titles.
This is a ready-made list of internal competition. Two pages with similar titles share one request, and usually both lose to a third, foreign one. It can be treated either by rewriting the headers for different intents, or by merging them with a redirect - if in fact they are the same page.
An analysis of what cannibalization looks like and how to do it is in the material about SEO for business.
6. Recommendations and diagnostics
Section with automatic comments. Most of them are technical and aimed at the developer, but two items are worth reading for marketers: content quality messages and sanctions notifications.
The site region is set separately there. For local businesses, this is one of the most underestimated points: without a specified region, the site does not participate in local search results as much as it could.
7. How to read along with Metrica
| Question | Where is the answer |
|---|---|
| For what queries are we shown? | Webmaster |
| Where they show but don't click | Webmaster |
| What do those who come do? | Metrica |
| What pages are they looking at? | Metrica |
| What's technically broken? | Webmaster |
It is a mistake to make decisions based on one source. The metric without a Webmaster shows only the winning part of the demand and creates the feeling that the site is working well. A webmaster without Metrics does not say what happens to people after they click.
8. Summary
Five reports, one hour per month: query statistics with a popular tab, pages in search, crawl history, duplicate titles, recommendations.
It's worth starting from the first. Lines with a large number of impressions and zero clicks are the cheapest point of growth that generally occurs in content marketing: some of them are repaired by rewriting one headline.
