GEO

Generative Engine Optimization · AI-SEO · optimization for AI search

GEO - optimization of content for citation in AI responses (ChatGPT, Perplexity, AI Overview). A New Layer of SEO: The goal is to become a source, not a link.

GEO - Generative Engine Optimization, optimization for generative search engines. If classic SEO is fighting for position in the list of links, then GEO is fighting for AI to take your content as the basis for the answer and link to you.

The mechanics are different. AI systems need: unambiguous definitions, a question-answer structure, fresh specific data, expert attribution (who wrote it and why to believe it). Key words in the old sense work less well here than clarity and texture.

I don't think of GEO as a replacement for SEO, but as a new layer on top of it. Glossary, FAQ blocks in articles, clear numbers - all this works for both classics and GEO at the same time.
